I live there and the natives think it's really well known in the rest of the world. I am dubious about this and so would like to establish what people in the rest of the world, or at least E...
Would like to find an apartment or something similar in a beautiful area near Barcelona for 4 adults and 1 child, for 6-7 nights stay. Would like to keep costs as low as possible as well. Any ...
Sorry about the lack of exact info, but this'll put youn in the right (cheap) area near, still in walking from the more lively areas.
A broad road runs up from the main town square. Cross that runs a road known as the Diagonal.
Carry on walking up the broad road, across the diagnonal, heaidng away from the sea. The road will narrow.
About 100m up from the diagonal there is a sligjtly naff hotdog cafe-bar. On the same street but opposite side of the road are a few pensions. I think the one I stayed in was €40-50/ night. There was no lift and the stairs were vertiginous, hence cheap price. As you move south? nearer the sea and the main square, prices rise to c€70-80 night for a 2-3* hotel/ pension.
Good luck.

PS Nearer the pension I stayed in there was a cheap Argentinan cafe on a side street, serving blinking marvellous spanish versions of mini cornish pasties (€ 1 each), with various fillings. I went in there just for a quick beer and left hours later after many beers and trying almost all the mini pasties. Yum. If you find this place and its name, please let me know. Its worth going back to Barcelona for that place alone.
You can try a site such as www.expedia.co.uk. Yo might actually find it cheaper though to try someone such as http://www.holiday-velvet.com as they have a large number of holiday apartment rentals in Barcelona I think.
