The ones you have tried along the road are probably Seville oranges ,they are not a sweet variety and are used to make marmalade. And the reason so many oranges are grown in Spain is because the climate is ideal and most are grown for export ,oranges are big business.

Because the climate is great for citrus fruits.

Because they make them grow so much and abecause most of the time in spain there is lot of sun shine and for orange trees to grow you need alot of sunshine

Captain Sarcasm
Because the growing conditions perfectly suit this fruit.

Emma

Because oranges need a lot of sun to grow and Spain export a lot of their oranges to make money, the same way Italians do with their grapes.
I have 100 orange trees in my garden and you cant bet a good Spanish orange.
