If you are from anywhere in the European Union you can work in Spain otherwise it will be difficult if not impossible. If you are from the UK you will find the wages much less than you are used to. The cost of living is cheap but with the Euro strengthening in value transferring money from the UK will be much less. This will affect you when you need to buy a place over here or even need money to get you started whatever you decide on. As for a career, you should have one already otherwise it will be the holiday trade you will be working in.

There are too much unemployment in Spain, and the pay is low, but you can get jobs in catering and tourism industry.

Where are you citizen of? From what I hear, working in Spain, or any EU country is very difficult unless you are from the EU. The have careers in just about anything you would find in any other developed country. There's always teaching English...tourism, as you've noted, real estate (though I suppose you'd have to have lived there a while to know your way around), just about anything you can do any place else.

The catch seems to be in the work visa.
