Post grade in Barcelona, Spain? Monthly cost of living?

I'm planning to study abroad to Barcelona next year (Universitat Pompeu Fabra). Must present a document including the cost of living in Barcelona to a local bank. I'm applying for a loan so I need monthly estimates. I'm planning to stay on round year.

Thanks in advance.

Are you planning on renting an apartment/flat by yourself or do you plan on living with others? Also a lot depends on where in the city you plan to live.

In general average flats rent out anywhere from € 800 -€1200 per month.

It's hard to state monthly costs for utilities and food as this all depends on your usage. We'll say a phone/internet can be around € 40 per month, water around €40 per month, electricity around €50, and natural gas around € 30.

Food is up to you!!!

I have been living in Barcelona for years so I'm quite accustomed to the cost of living here, but my American family and friends think Barcelona is a very expensive city.

A good indication from previous poster, and be aware that accomodation is notoriously difficult to find in Barcelona. For a heads up, and a bit of forward thinking try loquo website, so you can get an idea of the offers and estimate some prices. One thing also n ot already mentioned will be transportation - depending on which campus you're on, you'll need to do a fair bit of travelling on buses and metro. Or get a bike (or sign up for bicing).
