Firstly i have lived in Spain for the last 20yrs. As you can imagine i have seen a lot of changes. It most certainly is not cheap to live there anymore. Personnaly in comparison i think the UK is not so much cheaper but the produce you buy is far superior, and services, well it's not even up for discussion!!. Property well we still own 2 for letting purposes
but to buy again no way!!. Constuction even though its much better than it was it does'nt compare. But at the end of the day it deoends on what you want and afored ability. BARE IN MIND LOCAL GOVERMENT IS A LAW UNTO IT SELF!!!especialy land buying to build. the whole thing is very tricky luckely we have been very lucky, but a lot of this is down to experiance. If you buy count your finger's having made a deal!! Good luck.make sure of your water suupply!! |

It depends where you are in Spain, if you are on the Costa del Sol then the prices are very expensive.
If you live in the area I do - Valencia - there are still bargains to be had, a villa with pool for 100,000 and they are definitely worth it.
Wouldn't pay a million though for an apartment in Marbella! |

They are not worth it, prices is Spain around the Costa's are driven by house prices in Essex and the amount of equity available to the 'newly rich'. Spanish people cannot afford these prices and fight back with land grab laws and no longer welcome 'ex-pats'. |

you cans still get some great buys!!!!......yeah, the rooms are smaller now a days, but you dont spend a lot of time in the rooms, as you generally have terasces, balconys or soklariums etc |

Buying in Spain at the moment is not a great deal. Properties have risen to ridiculous prices (resale) and the owners are now realising they can't sell so are beginning to drop their prices, and quite rightly too. Any where on the coast no matter where, here in Spain is generally more expensive, construction not great, and properties are now alot smaller than in years gone by.
I bought an apartment with a sea view 5 years ago and sold 18 months ago making a profit, but would I buy at the moment again....no way I'm waiting until the market goes back done to a normal level then will shop around for a bargain like before.
If you are considering living here, then move here and rent, if your wanting to purchase for a holiday home then I'd wait or look at Morocco or States. If you are hell bent on Spain look into buying in a place that has no expat Brits, then you will be sure to get a great bargain. |

Property prices are beginning to slow down a bit now and if you shop around you may be able to pick up a bargain. Go for a resale rather than a new build as that way you will find people more negotiable.
I think it will always be a very popular destination for second homes and relocating so if you buy cannily you should get a good investement.
You will find lots of articles here about buying property in Spain that maybe of interest to you:-

Personally I wouldn't buy in Spain. I made a profit on a house there a few years ago, but what goes up must come down. In popular areas properties are far too expensive now. With new builds many companies are just trying to make a quick profit & as a result they don't seem to build them to a particularly high standard & customer service can be very poor. If I was to invest I'd try somewhere less developed such as Bulgaria instead. |

The newspapers last week, gave a report that sales of new properties are down again, properties are not seeling here, many around where I live have been on the market for well over 12 months and are reducing the price now to try to get interest. The apartment next door to us has had about 15-20 viewings and is still not sold, thats been on the market since October. If I was outside of Spain looking to buy abroad, I would not consider Spain, I would be looking at the new EU countries and looking at Morrocco for a holiday home, there is a lot of interest there at the moment, property is still fairly cheap but as interest increases, so will prices. |
