ESTAR (Yo estoy / Tu estas / El esta / Nosotros estamos / Vosotros estais / Ellos estan) Present Simple
- We use the verb ESTAR when talking about places YO ESTOY EN CANADA (I am in Canada), feelings ELLOS ESTAN CONTENTOS (They are happy)
SER (Yo soy / Tu eres/ El es/ Nosotros somos/ Vosotro sois/Ellos son) Present Simple
- We use the verb SER when describing the job: EL ES PROFESOR (He is a teacher), describing a person TU ERES ALTO (You are tall)
OBAMA ES EL NUEVO PRESIDENTE DE EEUU, ESTA MUY CONTENTO. EL ESTA AHORA EN CHICAGO.

--Possession

Estar is used for:
--Feelings/emotions, physical conditions or appearances.(temporary)
Estoy aburrido. (I am bored.)
Location of things and people (not events)
Esta en mi mochila. (It is in my backpack.)
In conclusion, ser is used for things that are more permanent in nature, while estar is used for things more temporary.
