Should I be worried going to Spain as a heavy person?

I am a high school senior going to Spain in a few weeks for an exchange trip. I am definitely on the bigger side.. wearing a size 20.. but I am 5'10" also.. I'm just worried that I'll be totally embarassed because of my size, considering Spain isn't full of obese people like the usa is. I know, I know, I should just be myself and comfortable in my skin.. but in reality, will i be sticking out like a sore thumb? What will it be like?

The Spanish people are wonderful, very tolerant of foreigners and have this great laid back attitude. They love life, can be very loud and in your face but this is not out of disrespect, it's just the way the majority of them are
Every one can find fault in themselves but don't go down that road as I am sure that once you get here you will have a great time. There is so much to do and see here that your weight should be the last thing on your mind. There are people of all shapes and sizes and creed here and as some one else pointed out people are too busy getting on and enjoying their own life to be bothered about anyone else's weight
You go and have a great time

You shouldnt be worried - Europeans are not as superficial as American's when it comes to weight. Years ago - weight was a sign of good fortune - so I was told. Carry yourself with confidence and let that inner beauty shine !

Have fun !

There's lots of hefty folks in Spain....Go, have a good time.

We're all our own worst critic. Little flaws you see in the mirror are never noticed by others. They're too busy fretting about their own shortcomings.

You will find European women tend to be more on the rubenesque side than American ladies due to their love of life and great food.

Go.....and have a good time....ya hear?

Spain isn't a country made up of walking sticks. Every country has people that look different.

Clarkie
Large people are beautiful too!
Including you!
Go with confidence that your inner beauty will show through. Keep your head up, make direct eye contact. Think of that comedienne MoNique - she adores being a big lady, and she looks fantastic - so can you
Besides, Europeans are not as critical as Americans. No one will be rude to you - count on that.

Spain is full of all kind of people, like everywhere in the world. You won't have any problem here, and if you have, tell me and I'll kick their asses!!! Hahahaha! :-D Welcome to Spain!!

Yes, you should definitely go. It is very possibly a once-in-a-lifetime chance that you would forever regret if you didn't go.

But, you should also be prepared for culture shock - don't expect things to be the same there as they are here. Be open to new things and experiences. Do not be critical of them or their ways, and do not speak much about differences there and here.

You are already sensitive about your weight. It won't be any different there. But, be prepared people here may say cruel things, or worse they may just stare. You will find the Spanish people to be more forward, they will tell you what they think. If they think you are fat, they will say it to your face; but, don't think it is an insult. Their attitude is very different, they may tell you what they think, but they don't care that you're fat and they wouldn't even understand if you were offended.

You will do a lot more walking in Spain. You will have less access to junk food. You may even lose a dress size or two while you're there.

Please, do go. You will remember your trip for the rest of your life. Don't miss out.

Just telling you like it is.

Seriously I would go! If you have the opportunity to go to Spain then just at it. Its a once in a lifetime opportunity and you will be so amazed at the country that you wouldnt even notice if someone was looking at you. Western Europeans are known for being welcoming, friendly and laidback and they really do not concern themselves with what other people look like. Even if they did they would not be so obvious and you wouldn't even note it. You should secure in your self not to worry about what people think and if you exude confidence people with treat differently.

I am a Spaniard living in the US. Don't worry about your weight, people won't care about it. You will find people is friendly and I am sure you are going to feel just as fine as in the US.
Enjoy your trip and I hope you like Spain.

There are also heavy people in Spain...and in all Europe, the USA don't have the exclusivity of heavy people.

Not all Europeans are skinny people!!

Don't worry about this and enjoy your trip!!!
