In my opinion Madrid is the better city to visit. I may be partially biased as i am a lover of Spain as a whole, but when in Barcelona (Catalonia)....... i don't feel like i am in Spain.

The ONLY downside to Madrid is there is no coastline. But that is all, i also found the people in Madrid to be much more welcoming and friendly. Prices i found overall just for simple things like breakfast, water, snacks etc. were much cheaper in Madrid too.

To be honest with you.... you can't go wrong with either choice, but for me personally i always enjoy Madrid so much more, also it's the Capital of Spain so it's well worth going to!

Either way, have a lovely time!!

Just remember the Barcelona is near the sea - Madrid isn't. Good luck deciding! I love Spain.

I would advise on Barcelona for a visit, it has a young spirit feeling , it has fun activities as well as the historical sites.

Both of them are interesting and have a lot of attractions.

In Madrid night life is more fun and also there are more interesting museums, as it is the capital of the state.

The architecture of Barcelona is much more interesting and is a much older city. You have also the sea and beaches.

Barcelona is more tolerant and Madrid more conservative (in Barcelona the votes on any elections always go to the left, in Madrid to the right).

Madrid is the capital of Spain and Barcelona of Catalonia.

Only one official language in Madrid: Spanish. In Barcelona and rest of Catalonia there are two official languages: Catalan, the original language, and also Spanish, the real name of which is Castilian.

Madrid likes bullfight in general and Barcelona completely hates it, in fact the ring in Barcelona is nearly always half-empty during the season and 70% of the attendance are tourists.

I'm from Barcelona but must admit that in general, people in Madrid and more friendly and open than in Barcelona. We Catalans are in some aspects more similar to the people of Southern France or Northern Italy than to the Spaniards.

But if you want me to recommend you one or the other, the choice is difficult, maybe it's better Barcelona if you are to go on holiday in July and you like the beach.

i believe barcelona will more fun

Which do you prefer? Modern art and architecture? Very cosmopolitan and chic, with a beach? (Barcelona) Or more classic, with the grace and culture that goes with being the Imperial and now national capital...the art and architecture is more classical, older. The atmosphere is more typically Spanish/isolated (in a manner of speaking) and less cosmopolitan. (Madrid).

Seriously...both really gorgeous cities...really gorgeous people, (in all ways) and really nice for what they are. But you can't go to Barcelona and think you've experienced Spain...you will have experienced Barcelona! Quite a different matter!
