If you have a sky box that supports free view bring it with you, as for the size of the dish you will need a minimum of 1.2m but 1.3 is better if you can get hold of one.. It sounds to me though that your dish has not been aligned properly, sometimes there can be a problem with channel 5 in the early evening but you should not be having problems with any others.
