You will love it--it has a great nightlife, beautiful beaches & a lot of fun shops, museums, etc. June will be pretty hot there (80s-90s). Spaniards do dress up a lot, especially in the south, so bring nice going-out clothes. (they don't allow sneakers in the night clubs) You might want to bring a gift if you are staying with a family.

Alicante, Spain with its beautiful boulevard and pleasant shopping street, is one of the most well-known towns on the Costa Blanca. The coast of Alicante and the Costa Blanca owes its name to the beaches stretching for several kilometers and attracts many sun worshippers and pleasure seekers.

Alicante is the capital city of the homonymous province (within the Valencian Community region) and has about 323,000 inhabitants. Its a coastal city in the so-called Costa Blanca, one of the most spoilt and busy tourist areas in Mediterranean Spain.
It is mainly known by its long sandy beaches, its promenades, the markets near the beach (mainly from African and other inmigrants), and its Castle of Santa Bárbara. Alicante has a beautiful but not well-known Old Town and it's an University town as well.
Nightlife there is simply vibrant!.
Alicante is also closer to other important cities such as Valencia (800,000 inhabitants, 3rd largest in Spain), Elche (200,000+) and Murcia (440,000, 7th largest). Many tourist spots like Benidorm or Torrevieja are also nearby.
There are daily ferries from Alicante's harbour to Ibiza island, in the Balearics archipielago.
