I always thought that it was a case of change at Bobadilla. Travel time must be about two & a half hours but I don't know how long you would have to wait between trains. Depends which train you take.
The link as ever is renfe.es.

There are no direct trains from Granada to Malaga making the whole trip take more than 3 hours. I'd rather use the bus. It takes less than 2 hours and costs 9€. Besides it runs the route several times a day.

www.renfe.es gives timetables (horarios) and prices (precios). In future there will be a high speed link but that some years away. Normal trains here are good value and reliable. Also buses between cities are reliable. Suggest you check out info Granada airport on the web site http://www.andalucia.com/travel/airports/granada.htm
