Check out a chain of hotels called Iberostar. They are usually located around beautiful surroundings. I visitied south ofSpain and stayed at this following location http://www.iberostar.com/EN/Andalucia-hotels/Iberostar-Royal-Andalus_3_18.html
and I can say that I had an ocean view for about 100 euro for 2 nights last March (it was a package). I loved the hotel and the area. I bet other Iberostar locations are just as good. I would highly recommend it.

I agree with Carrot Cruncher. PUERTO DE MAZARRON is beautiful. I have an apartment there and I take my kids there on my own and feel very safe. The area has long been a popular holiday destination with the Spanish but has remained relatively unkwon outside of Spain. Very Spanish, no English bars, no burger joints, no drunks just great Spanish cafes and restaurants dooted along a breathtaking Palm lined promenade.
The beach next to my apartment is fab for kids, very clean, sandy and shallow.Because the area is bordered by mountains it has its own micro-climate of hot,dry summers and pleasently mild winters (I took my kids at the end of October and they were in the pool all day it was so warm.).
you can rent my apartment if you like it 2bedroom, 2 bathroom ,large balcony ,washing machine, tv/dvd , beach front. Depending on the time of year prices start from Â£99 per week for the whole apartment including towels.Just let me know and I can give you loads more info on the area and also arrange transfers to and from the airport.

You could always try Mojacar in Almeria. Good resort. Plenty for the children to do with nice beaches. Tired of Mojacar Playa the beaches of Garrucha and Vera playa are to hand with the water park situated at Vera Playa.

I am Spanish and I would suggest that you do not go to hotels of anything like that. I find them too busy and impersonal, full of tourists. My suggestion if you want to get a proper feel of the real Spanish life style, is to hire a house and go shopping in the market, buy local produce and cook it at home, therefore you will learn some Spanish words to get you by, which is always useful, you will probably eat the best fish, meat and fruit and vegetables ever (from my point of view, of course) and your kids will enjoy living in a new house for a while. There are some nice places to go, look on the internet. Some places rent apartments, villas, houses from 1 day onwards, you don't need to go for a long term stay. www.granadainfo.com is a great site to look for places in Granada (center and beach) and you can get really cool places for very good money. They might be places in other regions in Spain. Look for houses to rent in Spain and you'll get lots of websites! It is just an idea, but it is what I do when I travel in my country, and any country where I go. I like to mix with the culture, people and so on. Good luck.

Sitges, just south of Barcelona is great for kids.
If you are bored with the beach, you can visit Barcelona (train to Paseo de gracia) or Port Aventura (about 1 hour to the south.

There are clean, safe (pre August) beaches and lots to do.

I live in Javea (Xabia) on Spain's Costa Blanca. This is a really beautiful part of Spain. Very very tranquil. We have a lovely sandy beach with an azure blue sea. We have a port area with a pebbly beach and loads of rock pools. There is a local market here on Thursdays. There are lots of lovely restaurants selling anything from authentic Spanish food to Indian and Chinese, also some really good quality English restaurants. Javea is not widely available in travel agents so you do not get the crowds here. There are good bus services to nearby Denia and the little Lemon Express train which you can also travel on to see some of the sourrounding areas. Both very cheap. The World Health Organisation states that Javea is one of the most 'near perfect' environments for the human being in the world. It is called 'The Jewel in the Crown' of the Costa Blanca. I agree.

Take a private villa with a pool somewhere in Andalucia, that way the kids have got the pool to keep them amused while you relax and soak up the sun.
As a compromise you could take somewhere within approx. 30 minutes of the Costa del Sol so if you want to visit the beach one day you can. The western end of the Costa del Sol around Estepona is quieter than the Fuengirola/Benalmadena area and you can also have a day in Gibraltar from there, I am sure the kids would enjoy visiting the wild apes and st. Michael's caves.

we went to callela but the kids got bored after 3 days. you'll need somewhere were the kids can keep themselves occupied but under supervision

hi, gran canaria is nice i normally go to puerto rico. which has everything ... lively on a night .. there is a resort near by called mogan which is quiter and also amodores beach is lovely which is in between puerto rico and mogan hope that helps

I would rent out a villa with your own swimming pool. The kids can play out and swim everyday and you can relax at the same time.Usually hotels are very busy with loads of tourists and after a few days kids get bored. Especially as hotel rooms are not that big. Even if you have to cook some of your own meals(BBQ) I prefer it because some hotels do not cater enough selections for kids meals. Other days you can also go out for meals, and of course you can come and visit my homeland (Gibraltar) I bet the kids would enjoy the apes. I hope you find a nice place to go and have a nice holiday.

Very quite resort called Isla Plana in Cartagena it is served by Murcia airport and is approx a 50 minute journey costing 50 Euro's by taxi or car hire is available. Ryanair fly into Murcia. Puerto Mazzeron is another sandy beach resort close to Isla Plana - ideal for young families

There are lots of nice resorts in the south of spain on the beaches. Whatever you do...dont stay at a hostel. look up resorts online and they will show you pictures and everything.

Menorca is nice and has some quiet parts, check that out on the net.

Don't go too Spanish as the Spanish generally dont like foreigners and make you feel uncomfortable and you just cant buy the things you want locally.

The best resorts are Marbella on the mainland or try Mallorca, that is generally much more upmarket, avoid Magaluf and Alcudia, try somewhere like Illetas, it is gorgeous.

Personally with young children I always find a villa better and cheaper. Then they can go to bed a bit earlier. Its so much more flexible.

Torrevieja is nice,it's on the Costa Blanca,only a short drive from Alicante. It's friendly,plenty to do,not too many lager louts.I've been twice (once with our daughter) and found it a relaxing,chilled resort.
