Spain in 2 and a half weeks!? |
My best friend and I are going to Spain in 2 and a half weeks. May 16th to the 30th. We're headed to Barcelona, Madrid, and Ibiza. Anyone know where two girls in their early 20s will have fun and be safe at the same time? Clubs, specifically? Even better, maybe a personal tour guide? (Cute, fun guys are welcome!) |

Don't worry about safety in Spain. Except certain small areas, it is quite safe, you'll have no problem. Be careful only with your bags if you go to the center of Madrid and Barcelona. I am from Madrid so here are my recommendations:
- Nighlife everyday during the week. Most crowded are the Alonso MartÃnez area and Chueca (best restaurants and shops here, in my opinion:).
- Shopping: Barrio de Salamanca area (expensive) especially Goya, Velázquez, Serrano. 2. Fuencarral street. 3. Princesa area. Not to miss: ZARA (the are plenty of Zara shops around Madrid, and El Corte Inglés, main Spanish shopping mall)
- Restaurants: Here I suggest the old center of Madrid. Pza de Santa Ara and sourroundings. Go for Tapas. Not to miss: tortilla de patata (spanish omelette), jamón serrano (spanish ham) and all tapas: chorizo, morcilla, etc. Casa Lucio is the most famous place for it but a bit expensive. With good weather, you have plenty of terrazas (outside bars and restaurants) in the center and throughout the Castellana street (the main street in Madrid).
- Fashion bars and discos: I now recommend you Archy (chamberà district), Pachá (alonso martÃnez), Gabana (velázquez) and Shabay (Eduardo Dato). There are other places with more tourists like Joy Eslava (c/arenal, old center, close to Puerta del Sol), and Palacio de Gaviria. Do not go to discos before 2 or 3 a.m. they are empty. The best option is to go for dinner (not before 22.00), then go for some drinks to smaller bars (here alonso martinez is the best option) and then go to the disco. Most are open until 6.45 am aprox.
Tourism: Museo del Prado is a must! and then just take a walk from Colón Square down to Atocha Square through the Paseo del Prado. Its beautiful. Then of course the old center of Madrid. If you have time, go see flamenco to El Corral de la MorerÃa or other Tablaos. When dancers take a break, you can dance as well. I think this one is the oldest.
For the time when you come, it should be already quite hot here, so be prepared to have about 30 degrees during the day. (Colder during the night).
Ah! you have a bus for tourists that makes a tour around the city. You can take it close to the Neptuno Square and the Prado Museum. It's cheap (I think it is 11 euros all day) and it's worth taking it.
Hope you enjoy it! |

The streets of Barcelona are alive by day or night, providing the visitor with a safe place for strolling around, whether for shopping, eating or simply passing the time of day. There is also 1 mile long city beach with clean soft sand, ideal for sun bathing.
