Spain in December....? |
I'm going to Spain the day after Christmas. I didn't want to go in December, but that was the only option available for me.
What is Spain like in December? Will the trip still be enjoyable? Additional Details Toledo, Seville, Madrid, Granada, Costa de Sol |

Here on the Costa Del Sol. most Christmas days we have Christmas lunch by the beach. It can be a very good time of the year to come to Spain. This winter has been cold and wet, but that is unusual. I would say you have good chance of fine weather, but it will cool down at night, so bring something warm.
As for Madrid and Toledo, you may still get sunny weather, but it will be cold there with frost, Granada could either be pleasant or it could be cold. Granada is about 8c cooler tham Malaga in winter. |

which part? the only slightly warm areas in december will be Costa del Sol or Teneriff maybe Benidorm but you still need a jacket and it will be full of pensioners. Costa Brava, Costa Dorada, Majorca will all be very cold could be snowing and closed at that time of the year. |

it depends where u go, the canary islands (tenerife etc.) should be warm! i went to tenerife once in january and the weather was beautful, sunny and very warm - but not an overpowering heat!
mainland spain will be cooler, although the southern parts may be fairly warm, i once went to benidorm in late november - some days were warm but some were cooler, and it rained a little.
spain will probably not be particularly lively that time of year, and yes a lot of older people will probably be there (i dont know how old u are) - the liveliest will probably be the canary islands, since it is warmer too. |

Bring Winter clothing, plan to drink lots of hot coffee, and chocolate. And console yourself with the fact that lines will be significantly shorter than most other times. Make SURE you know what is open and what is not, for every day that you are there, to plan things...I'm assuming you are talking about museums and churchs, and monuments and such. Some may be closed for certain days that are holy...others may not be, so you may need to be more scheduled than at most other times. Other than that, well, you can ALWAYS have fun! You'll be on vacation!
As they say...the worst day of vacation is generally better than work.
*edit* Yeah. Definitely bring warm clothes! You can even plan (I don't know the odds, but plan) for the possibility of snow in some of those places. But it will probably be cold enough for a winter coat and scarf/hat. And count your blessings! Both the Alhambra and the Prado, especially, lines in the summertime can get up to two hours long...you will probably be able to walk right in1
Wait! Not Segovia!? Try to add that in, too. A day for Seg., 1 for Toledo, a couple for Sevilla, at least 1½ for Granada, two is better. (after travel) and I can't tell you how long to spend on the coast. Not my thing. |
