Study Abroad in Spain? |
What is your preferred housing if you have studied in spain. I want to do homestay because I want to be part of a more active spanish like lifestyle and better my spanish quicker. I also think it would be fun getting to know another family in a different country.
However I have been warned of how strict the sevillian family is and that it might be more difficult to have the freedoms that a another student might have living in an apartment or independent housing. So I am worried of how this will affect my experience. Also another thing that worries me is that I am a vegetarian, would this be a problem living in sevillian home? |

I studied abroad in San Sebastian, and I stayed with a family, and I absolutely loved it. I would definitely recommend it for many of the reasons you've mentioned. My spanish improved incredibly, and I learned a ton more about the authentic Spanish culture. I found my family (along with all the other families who students lived with) were not strict at all! They had such a laid back lifestyle that I had absolutely no problems at all. Much of the time I would go out to discotheques until 6 am, and my host mom would say that I had gotten home early! Just the culture I guess. But yes, I would totally recommend living with a family! Good luck choosing, either way-- you're going to have an amazing time! |

You´re going to Sevilla?
Tons of places to stay! I lived in a Residencia (student housing, sort of like a dorm, or really more like a boarding house) on Montecarmelo in Los Remedios. I understand that barrio is now quite expensive. It looked more modern than it had been in my day.
I also took an apartment about halfway through my year there. I lived with another American girl and a Swiss woman. (It was in La Macarena)
We really weren´t even offered homestay. It really wasn´t an option for University students. Make sure it is. Residencias are quite a nice way to get into the student lifestyle and meet lots of people in your age group. |
