Has anyone studying Spanish in Spain? If so: do you have suggestions on what are the best regions to study in for purity of accent, etc. Can you suggest a school? |

I think Salamanca is one of the best places to study Spanish for purity of accent. If you come to Madrid there's a greater variety of private schools and the universities offer language courses, too. Not all teachers in Madrid are madrileños though and you will listen to a lot of accents in the street anyway. Take a look at the website of the Complutense University, I took a course there and it was great. |

I can´t advise on the rest of Spain but for Madrid we did an evaluation and the results are here:
http://www.madrid-guide-spain.com/spanish-in-madrid.html
We have no commercial relationship with the company the we recomended but undertook the study simply due to the number of emails we had from people like yourself wanting to study here.
Another, little known, option which gives you free accomodation is this one:
http://www.madrid-guide-spain.com/teach-english-in-spain.html
Again we don´t have a commercial relationship with these guys either.
Its always an experience learning a foreign language in a foreign country and however you eventually decide to do so I sincerely hope you enjoy it. Make sure you get involved in everything and although tired at times don´t turn down an invite to do something different. Chances are in 5 -10 years time you´ll look back on it as one of the best times of your life! |

If you're looking for a challenge, andalucia is the place to go. it'd be the equivalent of a southern american accent. if you're trying to learn puro espanol, andalucia isn't the place to start. the best place to go for you would probably be madrid. i'd recommend barcelona, but there they speak with a mild lisp and a lot of catalan is used. madrid, toledo or salamanca are your best options. universidad de salamanca would be a great place to study, after you get a hang of the language, be sure to venture down to sevilla to see if you can understand the accent. |

I loved Sevilla.
I studied AT the Universidad de Sevilla. I had several years of study under my belt before going, and found that studying alongside, and having the opportunity to actually TAKE classes WITH the students FROM Spain, was exactly what I wanted. (I actually took several classes within the university during the second semester). PURITY of accent? Absolutely NOT! Purity of culture, however, totally YES. Sevilla is the capital of the most Romantic, and truly what you think of when you think of Spain culture/art/architecture, etc. It is gorgeous, and you will love it.
As for the purity of accent? Well, they are VERY difficult to understand there. I had professors that I had to struggle to understand. YOU can modify your accent as you learn, however. And the end result is...if you can understand and keep up with the people from AndalucĂa, you can probably handle just about anyone. People talk about how difficult it is to understand the Argentinians...I have no trouble at all. They, in fact, sound very close to Andaluces.
If you want to develop a truly clear Spanish accent, imitate the people from Madrid...much of what you hear in the movies and any Spanish television is Madrileño. If you want to be able to understand anybody...go to AndalucĂa. |
