It is a great place to live or visit,You can get lots of information on the Cost del Sol here:-

La Costa del Sol - translated (loosley) is "the Sunny Coast".
Spain's sounthern coast on the Mediterranean.
Includes the towns of Almeria and Alicante, and many smaller ones. Nice enjoyable area. I had no troubles with English (American, actually) and some broken Spanish (Tex-Mex, actually). Good luck booking in August - seems like all of Madrid is on the coast, as well as many others. Shoulder season would be less crowded and cheaper, and just as fun. Check out the original Valor Ice Cream in Alicante.

what about it - it is a nice place for a holiday, a bit up market and not somewhere I would recommend for teenagers.

Costa de Sol i assume you mean.?
The thing that always sticks in my mind is the time of took to get to the hotel from the Airport. Never again.
The resort itself, is very nice but very expensive.
See this lot

The Costa del Sol is a region which comprises of the coastal towns and communities in the Málaga province, along the coastline. It is in the south of Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. The name translates as "Coast of the Sun" in English.
