Actually, Toledo is only about 45 mins - 1 hour from Madrid.

Bodies of water? Have you talked about this at all in whatever class you´re doing the project for? You can´t talk about Toledo without knowing the river that circles around the city. I suggest you do a quick search of Toledo and you´ll find some information. After you´ve done a little work, if you can´t find it, I´ll give you a hint.

Souvenires: I figure that one I can help with...aside from the ordinary chinese-made typical tourist stuff (and trust me, there´s TONS of it, but it isn´t worth much), the most typical things you would bring home from Toledo include swords (anything from tiny models to full-sized unsharpened for display, to the real thing), because, you know, the best swords in the world have come from Toledo for the last, like 500 years. They developed a method of tempering steel there that made them the strongest. They are highly prized. A good, unsharpened sword can run between about $500 and $1000 US. Also Damascene work. Do a search so you can find out more about it than I can possibly write. Nice stuff, if you like the style. It can be quite cheap, but as the saleswoman I spoke to explained, in order to get a HANDMADE piece of about 1/2" or so, (as in a necklace) you have to pay upwards of about $45.00, a small plate for display, more than $70.00 (and the prices just keep going up with the sagging dollar). The cheaper pieces are machine-made, and again, done in China. She explained that first, the machine-made products wear off quickly, as they are made with very thin layers of gold, and second, that they are identifiable by the fact that there are no imperfections in the design.

Also, while you are in Toledo, you should try Marzipan, which is a specialty of the area. It runs about $1.00 for something like 6 pieces.

I went to Toledo about 8 years ago. It was beautiful. It was about a couple of hours from Madrid if I remember correctly. There is water, but I don't remember the name of it. As far as souvenirs go for the gold. They make beautiful bracelets, swords, and decorative pieces. They weren't that expensive when i was there. I bought a clasp bracelets for about $17 dollars.
