Depends on your definition of cold. I live in Wisconsin and it's freezing in February! When I was in Madrid in February, I only wore a medium to light jacket. It was like our April weather. I once flew into Madrid and had a transfer flight from Barcelona to Madrid when I left. Is that possible for you? I'm not sure how that affects the cost of the tickets since the tickets were arranged for us by our company. Let's Go has a good variety of things to do for younger people (I used it in college). I've never used a Fodor's guide, but their website and message boards are very helpful. Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla are all great, but it may be too much to travel that distance and tackle all three cities in 11 days. Go to either Barcelona/Madrid or Sevilla/Madrid and find other cities to visit along the way. In the north, smaller towns like Segovia and Salamanca are nice, and the Basque country is supposed to be nice as well. In the south, I love Cordoba and Granada. Cordoba can be a day trip, but you'll need a day to explore the Alhambra alone in Granada. Read up for other interesting places. Good luck!

I live on the Costa Del Sol some way from the 2 places you mentioned, but here the weather in Feb. can be very good.I have sat on the beach in Feb. though it do get a bit chilly at night times.
Why not travel with a coach party? that way will see to your every needs, guides, accommodation, etc. Have a lovely trip wherever you end up in Spain.

In february both cities are chilly.
for train information: www.renfe.es, anyway from Madrid to Barcelona takes about 5 hours and costs about 60 €

Good luck!!!

I would really recommend at that time of year you travel further south. Both Barcelona and Madrid can be very cold then. Seville might be a better choice.

Take a look at my web site:-
http://www.costadelsol-vacationrentals.com
Although it is predominately about the Costa del Sol there is also lots of information about all aspects of Spain, for instance there are pages on Seville
http://www.costadelsol-vacationrentals.com/seville.html

Madrid

and Barcelona
