Travelling to spain with a nearly expired passport!?

I asked a similar question earlier but forgot to mention where I was travelling to!
I plan to travel to Majorca, Spain in either March/April next year and my passport is set to expire in May.
Does anyone know the rules with Spain, whether you need to have 6 months left on your passport to travel?
Additional Details
oh and who would I contact to confirm this> The Spanish embassy?

Your question is not answerable since the main information required is missing: What is your citizenship?

To travel to Spain various passport validations are required:

Passport holders of countries requiring a visa must have a passport which is valid at least three month after the visa expiration date. So if somebody holds a six months valid visa for multiple entries the passport must be valid at least nine month.

Passports of visa-waived countries like the USA must be valid during the period of stay, neither 3 months afterwards as the US State Department website erroneously tells nor six months afterwards as the previous contributor wrongly tells.

Passports of European Union countries whose nationals need a passport for Spain (Denmark, Ireland, United Kingdom) must be valid on arrival.

Passports of Germany and the United Kingdom may even be invalid less than one year.

Other European Union countries may also enter Spain on their valid official national identification cards in lieu of a passport. ID cards of Germany may be invalid less than a year.

Some European passport holders may even enter Spain with a passport that has become invalid no longer than five years (Austria, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland)

If you still want a confirmation you should contact the Spanish embassy at your (unknown) country. A list of Spanish embassies/consulates of all countries is attached as the last source.

Why don't you just renew it now; it may well be an issue at border control - so why take the risk?

Hi! you will be ok, I asked a few months ago when I was due to travel to Spain with just a month left on my passport and was told I would be fine...and I was :o) It's only 6 months for places outside of EU. However if you apply for a new one now they will add your months you have left on to your new one and it won't take long to arrive especially if you use the post office check.

Assuming you are American, then, yes. You need to have a new one. You must have your passport good for six months AFTER your departure date, so that if you are leaving on, say, March 15, your passport must be good until Oct. 15.

You don't need to CONFIRM this anywhere, but if you go to the post office to have it taken care of, they will confirm this.

Just do it. You're going to need it in six months, anyway, right?

(If your passport is NOT US, then all bets are off. I have no idea).

Officially you need 6 months on a Brit passport to go anywhere, here they are not so strict, but you never know you may be unlucky and get turned away, renew it now to save the hassle. Contact the Passport office nearest to you.

I wish people would not answer question,s that they are not sure about, you can travel to spain from a e.u country on a passport that is valid on your return date,to put your mind at rest phone your operator or carrier,

Sometimes they do, sometimes they do not. I have arrived in a Spanish airport before 9am and no officers were on duty so my passport was not checked at all!

The rules have been known to differ and I have seen people refused at the check in, loosing their holiday, due to exactly that. It may depend on your nationality and you do not say what you are. Non EEC passport holders may well need to have 6 months.

A decent travel agent should be able to tell you.

I always reckon to get just over 9 years out of a passport not 10. So change it just after Christmas to save the worry.

I think you'll get away with it to Spain, however I think the law is about 6months left on a passport... but Spain and the UK? are inside the E.U so technically you should only need your National ID... that is what I need to get into the UK From Spain...
