Barcelona is great for a short break. Please be careful of pickpockets. Keep everything with you and safe. It's not that bad but just be generally aware. Look out for the street entertainment " live statues " down the Rambla's they are good. On a warm clear day take the cable car across the harbour if you don't mind heights ! Fantastic. Also don't forget to feed the tonns of fish at the water front. Have a great time x x

Las RAmblas, is VERY beautiful. it's one of the richest districts in Barcelona. During the day, it's gorgeous, there's tons of people strolling along and there are cafes and shops all along Las Ramblas.

But beware at night going through there, it's not such a hot idea, because although it's beautiful, it can get dangerous, i know from experience.
Just stick with your friends, if you go somewhere, like just to check out one of their shops, use the buddy system.....seriously.
i'm not trying to scare you, but anywhere you go, there'll be danger...so just be careful.

spanish isn't spoken a whole lot in Barcelona, like it is in Madrid. you'll be lucky if you find a vendor who will speak spanish, because most of the people in Barcelona speak Catalan.

but if you go to like an ice cream shop along Las Ramblas, they'll have an english menu.....just show them a really confused face when looking at the Catalan menu, and they'll know right away you need a english one, and they'll hand it to you. :D.

Las Ramblas, isn't cheap. It's like the MAJOR shopping district with Coach stores and all of that. But they do have some other normal stores...:D.

it's just really nice there...you will find a lot of Indian and Pakistani and Arab people in Spain...it's normal though...:D.

yeah i've been tis cool, tho keep hold of ur bags at all times even when sitting down as one of ours got stolen. places to see, defo see casa battlo http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/00/12/7c/12/casa-batllo-at-night.jpg is a really cool building esp inside costs like 10 euros but worth it. hope this helps enjoy ur trip

Is there anything to do in Barcelona?

Why, all you need to do is exit your lodging, and you're in the thick of Barcelona right there!!! You don't even really need to go anywhere esle!

But, and a lot depends on what you like...there's clubbing galore, jazz clubs, and young peoples' places raves, or whatever...anything you want. Barcelona is a huge city!

There are museums: everything from history to archeology, art, and chocolate. The Palau Musica is a treat, even if you don't go for a concert, you can tour most days. (check the schedule at the office because we couldn't go, they were doing a concert on the only day we had left).

There are two major neighborhoods to check out the architecture: BarrÃ Gotic for, you guessed it, Gothic (through Renaissance), and the Eixample for the Moderniste movement. Aquarium, zoo, Olympic attractions, Monestary just outside of town (Mont Serrat), and food! The seafood is to die for! (especially at Port Vell, where it's particularly fresh) and don't miss the homemade ice cream all along the Ramblas, and you must stop for Chocolate and Churros at the CafÃ© de la Opera, across from the Opera (some of these things are just logical :)) on the Ramblas (it's about halfway up from the port on the right).

Really, it's just a matter of what you're interested in. It's probably there.

Yours is a DEEEEEP Question. If I were you, I'd buy The Lonely Planet's guide to Barcelona. We could write pages and pages on Barcelona here. I own a copy of TLP for BCN and found it indispensable.

La Rambla is the narrow boulevard which essentially divides El Raval and Barrio GÃ³tico neighborhoods. It starts up top at the Plaza de Catalunya and ends downhill at the waterfront at the Christopher Columbus statue.

I've posted a few things on Barcelona in this forum already which you can find by scanning the topics. You'd do well to take the Hop-on-Hop-off Barcelona Bus Turistic (web: http://www.tmb.net/en_US/turistes/busturistic/busturistic.jsp ) to get a good overview of the city.
