Unspoiled Spain?!? |
I was wondering if anybody who has travelled around Spain could possible fill me in on places preferably on the coast which appear the most 'unspoiled'.
By 'unspoiled', I mean places which have been the least affected by tourism and still have a traditional spanish cultural vibe.
I am going to travel around Spain in order to 'soak' in some spanish culture and I need advice from those who have been 'there' and 'done' that...
However, I would still appreciate advice from people who haven't been in this position. The more info, the better... |

Some say that unspoiled Spain is 100 metres from the road.
Unspolit does not exist but try the Costa Brava, (yes really!) with a boat, or Mallorca's west coast. (a boat helps here too!)
There are still some quaint and unspoilt parts left in Galicia and the northern coast. I visited a 'castro' on the Galician coast in August, there were only a few tourists on the nearby, unspoilt beach, but it was cold.
Some of the coast in Cadiz province is remarkable unspoilt especially around Cape Trafalgar, Vejer de la Fra. and Chipiona.
The only really unspoilt area on Spain's coast is the Coto de Donana. I landed there a few years back and there was nothing!
N.B. 'Really unspoilt' comes with no facilities. |

the north coast, especially galicia, asturias and the basque country; beautiful countryside, mountains and coastline. great olde world celtic culture going on there as well, all cider and bagpipes.
i lived for a year in oviedo in asturias and often headed out into the countryside; it's completely different to the stereotype spaghetti western style savannahs (they're in the south), it's more like scotland to tell the truth. to the east you've also got the majestic and little known picos de europa mountain range. |

Stay away from the "Costa's" on the East Coast of Spain. The West coast is probably the least touched by tourism. |

Spain is many countries all rolled into one therefore the culture in Spain is very varied and interesting. Its Atlantic shores and the huge plains of the interior have very distinct characteristics. Similarly, the Mediterranean Costa's change ‘flavour’ as they sweep down from the Pyrenees.
