The "plenty of expats" seem to have destroyed anything that would have been described as "quaint and Spanish".

You have to choose....you either want a town that is full of Ex pats, or you want a town that is truly Spanish...not much that combines the two.

You could try Villaricos in Almeria province. Typical Spanish fishing village with expat community that hasn´t spoilt the ambience.

You should try Roquetas de Mar in Almeria. Its in two parts, the Urbanization which has the beach, hotels and tourist stuff and then you have the old town with fishing port, bullring and shops and market.Best of both worlds really

Ash
i agree, why would you move to spain and just want to live with expats. That's what the Pakistanis are doing to spain as well and ruining the culture.

Hi!

I Live in Sabinillas, its about an hour away from Malaga, on the border of Malaga and Cadiz. its quite spanishy but then the port in like a mini britain. you have the best of both really.

lived here since i was 7 and have no regrets!

There is a lovely place called Torrox which is in southern Spain - about half an hour from Malaga airport. It has lots of English expats there, with English run bars and restaurants although up until a few years ago there used to be lots of Germans on the resort. There is a lovely town about 15 min drive away called Nerja which is a little more expensive then Torrox but has lots of things to do, esp in the evenings and is more traditionally Spanish.

It has to be Nerja, no question about it.
