What do you mean with where on the costa del sol ? Which town ? Which hotel ? The costa is only like 70 km and it is all about care free holidays (for people that like shopping centres and be with their own nationalities too).
Really care free ? Land at Málaga, turn your back on the costa del sol and drive inland. Just a 40 minute drive and you're there. Care free land :)
If you are a bit hip... then Tarifa is great. If you like originality and nature... the costa de la luz. All within reach of the costa del sol.

Look up Capo de Gata! For ex. the town of San Jose.
Not busy and beaches which are nice and not over crowded like the rest of Spain.
