The Post Office give on line information every day. Just click on the travel section and follow instructions. If you go into your local branch then there is no charge for changing.
I used to find i got a better rate by changing currency abroad. The problem is now that the Euro and the Pound are about the same; you may not get a better deal abroad.
Hope you have a great time!!

Presume you mean Euros

Its probably best to get most over here as the rate in Spain is not much different to here at the moment

Best places here, which I've found are
Tesco,Marks and Spencer and Money Credit Exchange shops

If you are going to somewhere, like a holiday resort in Spain, you might get a slightly better rate as there is lots of competition then.

guiri
You are better waiting until you get over here.

(By the way, am I alone in becoming totally fed up with pedants?

All that fuss about your typo!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The rate is much higher is spain than here. In the last two months been Madrid, Barcelona and Oviedo and on all occasions the rate was higher there. Best place I seen is the Post office. Commission free as well.

jonks
Best choice would be M&S or the Post Office as they do not charge a commision. The rate of the Euro is poor & there isn't a lot of difference both in the UK or Spain. Yes 'guiri' I also agree with your comment, maybe English isn't the first language. The people that make snide comments know exactly what was meant. Have a good one whenever you go chowbaby.

The difference is minimal on a few hundred pounds. It's not good here at the moment.

I'm pretty sure you meant to put Euros...Eros is a Greek god. One we have long since decided doesn't really exist.

Euros...at a bank.

Seriously...as long as you steer clear of the convenience places, like the ATMs and change booths at the airports, and such, be careful on the street, but banks will give you the best possible rates at any bank, and the difference from country to country, and from one bank to another is so minimal as to amount to pennies on a $100 or £50 purchase.

Really, the easiest thing to do is use a credit card. Make sure the one you use has the best possible FEE, that would be the 1 - 3% they charge for the service of exchanging the money, and they should get you the best possible rates.

Debit cards are about the best way to get cash. Check to be sure you know if there is a fee for using a foreign ATM. Again, the fee for the exchange should be about 1 - 3% (you pay this fee, no matter how you do the exchange).

Go to YOUR bank, and they should give you the best rates on enough money to get a snack or two when you arrive, and your cab fare, and then do the rest while you are there.

It all works out the same...if you find a place that doesn't charge the fee, they will raise the amount you pay per Euro. If you find a place that looks like it gets you a better rate on the exchange, the fee is higher...it all comes out about the same.
