What's an easy thing for vegans to do for breakfast in Madrid? |
Vegans do not eat meat, eggs, or dairy. My husband and I will be staying near Puerta del Sol, and our hotel does not offer a free breakfast. I'd be happy with something as simple as a bagel and a cup of tea, but I am told that bagels are not common in Spain. What would be something easy (and cheap) to ask for in a cafe, to eat as I sip my tea and prepare for a day of sightseeing? Do most cafes offer toast? |

All cafés sell toast
"Toastada"... usual you have Cheese and Tomato... but you could ask for just Tomato ?? =/... and Olive Oil... but I wouldn't say for Breakfast it would be nice.
Yes... Bagels are Jew Food, you must go to a Bagel Shop to buy.
Coffee with-out milk ??... I think Soy-Milk will be a NO...
"Café sin leche" or... "Café Américano"... most coffee come's with milk "Café con leche" so you must rember to say no milk (it will come inside the coffee most commonly)
If you write what you'd usually have for breakfast... I'll tell you if an average café here will have it...
Items like Soya milk... you can buy... but are alway's a no in a café...

Same thing everyone in Spain has for breakfast! Coffee with toast. Ask for your coffee black (ew!) [café solo] or you might be able to find places that serve soy milk, and your toast with olive oil (aceite de oliva - you'll want to be specific). In Barcelona, yes, the toast comes with tomato/olive oil spread. (they call it Catalan Butter) The bread used is generally like a French bread...crusty and crunchy. Really good!
tea is easily available as well.
Bagels? not so available, but they are in some spots.
Too bad you're a vegan, though...sooooo many good things there that you won't be able to eat!
You'll want to be sure to find special places.
Did you post somewhere about Barcelona? TONS of Indian places there...my vegitarian (lacto-ovo) friend did okay with them while we were there. But no cheese? or eggs? Fresh fruits? Vegetables? You might want to hang at the markets and just buy your own...that way you'll get some of the food experience. Oh! The olives!!!! they are really good! You can't live on them, but you can certainly try all the varieties! |
