What's the problem with Bullfighting?

Isn't it a dignified death?

Depends how you look at it. Spaniards look at it as a valiant sport with tons of finesse and I have no idea. I just go and watch the pretty colors and flashy costumes. It's kinda gory if you look at it from that point of view, and lots of people, especially non Spaniards, who just don't understand the fine details, are seriously turned off by the blood. From that point of view, it's really a nasty thing...I can turn that off (all of twice in my life), to enjoy a spectacle that is culturally significant and a slice of Spain, but I wouldn't waste three to four hours every Sunday watching it, as some people do. Of course, many of them have money on the matches, just like any sport.

Murphy...that's actually it...the bull IS turned loose on one guy. He can be killed. It just doesn't happen terribly often.

if you got stuck in a ring with a few spear wounds to start then got taunted then killed would you feel dignified???

Joe from WI
It isn't. The animal is stabbed (punctured) numerous times. It bleeds everywhere. I cheer when the bull kills the bullfighter.

How can a death where an animal is tortured into submission and too weak to fight back be dignified. By the time the so called brave matador comes in the ring, the bull is nearly dead anyway, all he has to do is finish it off. If you notice the picadors are not so brave, they come in the ring on horseback to torment and torture the bull.

Whats dignified about it? I have lived in Spain for the last year and on occasions when in a bar, bullfighting has been on TV.In the end of a few of the fights the bull has been so worn out it has simply laid down and given up only to be tormented back onto its feet to be killed as it is dishonourable to kill it if it is lying down!!! Its not dignified, it is totally sick. The bull is dead the second it steps in the ring no matter how well it fights.

People need to get over the animal cruelty thing. This is a sport that has been going on for centuries and will continue to be one of the most popular sports in Spain, and is growing leaps and bounds. What people need to do is see what goes on behind closed gates in these slaughter houses in the US. At least in bullfighting the bull has a chance to get back at the matador, and in some cases he does, lots of matadors have been killed.

Murder for 'sport' is no sport at all, but rather barbarianism. It's disgusting and should be outlawed. I don't give a damn about Spanish tradition. It's about as viable an excuse for this filth as it is to murder whales for 'scientific' reasons in Japan.

Nothing when the Bull is winning, the trouble the never wins, ever.

No! Its inhumane!! How would it be if the table were turnedn and the bull was let loose on a vulnerable man?

I think it's a problem when the matador gets a horn up his butt.
