What's worth seeing between Barcelona and Logrono/Laguardia? |
We're going to Spain in April, and we have 2 full days to drive from Barcelona to Laguardia. Where should we spend the night (we were thinking Zaragoza, just because it's about halfway) and what should we see on the way? We're from Canada. We don't necessarily go for the typical touristy stuff and we want to try good local food! |

I did a similar trip in the opposite direction -- From Laguardia to Girona, staying in Zaragosa one night. The other person described Zaragosa pretty well -- there is also a Moorish Palace called the Alferia there. On my way to Zaragossa I visited Estrella, which is an old town on the Pilgrim route with a lot of interesting old Churches if you are into that kind of stuff and also visited the "Monasterio de Piedra" which is about an hour south of Zaragossa -- this is a Monastery with a nature park full of beautiful rock formations, waterfalls etc. It is a fairly popular tourist site because it is really beautiful.
In Laguardia I stayed at the Marixa which has a pretty good restaurant. I really liked LaGuardia -- and driving around La Rioja.
For good information on food try to get ahold of one of Penelope Casas' books on Spain (Discovering Spain is one) she really focuses on food and has good suggestions and descriptions for places to visit.
Enjoy. |

Stay the night in Barcelona - The streets of Barcelona are alive by day or night, providing the visitor with a safe place for strolling around, whether for shopping, eating or simply passing the time of day. See http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/places/barcelona.htm for more details |

Zaragoza is worth 2 days, especially if you're already planning on passing through the town. Be sure to check out the main plaza with the nice churches and the Roman ruins - those were the main sights that my friends and I took pictures of. And oh, we also liked walking from one half of the town via the bridges over the River Ebro and taking in the view from there.
There are also a few decent eateries near the Roman ruins.
Hope this helps, have a good trip. |

I think stopping in Zaragoza is a good idea if what you're aiming is eating good. There, you can find lovely food. Anyway, 2 days are a very long time, so don't get stressed... just enjoy your time there!
Hope you have a good time. |
