What American banks allow use of the ATMs in Spain without a fee? |
I am going to Spain for 90 days and would like to be able to buy groceries, travel, and be able to use the ATMs. I do not want there to be any problems with fees or anything of that nature. I have Bank of America now and I have a visa debt and credit card with them. Will they work? Will the Euro 6000 ATMs charge me a fee?
What American banks charge no fees in Spain? I know Navy Federal does not but I am not in the Navy. |

Use a local credit union that does not charge ATM fees. I used my credit union debit card for everything while I was in Spain, France, England, Scotland, Italy, and Ireland; I never had any fees at all. Meanwhile, I had a bunch of friends who were always complaining about fees. Credit unions are definitely the way to go. They have higher savings account interest rates and fewer fees in general because they are non-profit. I don't know why anybody uses a bank. |

From what I know, None. There is always a conversion fee. My brother used to work at a bank. |

The ATM bank does not charge a fee, but your bank may, and include a foreign currency exchange rate as well. However, these fees are not huge, you'll really won't notice them. If you withdraw, say, 200euros at a time, the fee (if any) from your bank will only be $4 or $5. Best to check with the bank first if you're concerned, or shop around with other banks.
Before leaving home, contact your bank and let them know you're travelling overseas. That way, they won't put a hold on your account due to unusual activity.
Make sure you're ATM debit card has a 4 digit PIN.
Use only a debit card to withdraw cash from ATMs. Use the credit card to pay for accommodation, large purchases etc.

There are none. There will always be a conversion fee put on by the government.
So to avoid paying multiple fees take out your max daily limit for your debit side to avoid having to pay the fee multiple times. If you need to use your card then just use the credit side. |

Sorry but NONE.They will all charge a fee,it´s the way they make money.Unless you had an account on one of them, then this bank wouldn´t charge. The other banks would. |

None. Unless you go to an ATM specifically your bank. Otherwise, they all charge for using someone else's ATM, which is how they make their money. Best thing to do is bring some traveler's checks with you, it would be the best way to travel with. |

If you have a bank account in Spain and you use the ATM of that bank then it's free, if not then you will be charged a fee. All banks in Spain operate this system. |

The only bank I have found is USAA. They will actually refund fees to you if an international ATM charges you. The only problem is USAA is for military active duty, retired, spouses, family, etc...
All the other banks I use Bank of Oklahoma and IBC charge fees. |
