Giralda - Sevilla
Acueducto - Segovia
Alcázar - Segovia
Alhambra - Granada
Palacio Real - Madrid
Cero: The asker only wanted five. But you´re right...I don't think in terms of Sports, and I really am more interested in the older structures. |

It's actually a question of one's tastes....
I would pick
La Alhambra in Granada (not to be missed if you visit Spain)
El Teatro Romano in Merida (still used as a theater in summer)
El Real Sitio de Aranjuez (a royal palace in Aranjuez, near Madrid)
La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona (the as yet unfinished church, masterpiece of GaudĂ)
Las Cuevas de Altamira... (the caves in Altamira, known for their prehistoric paintings)
But that is just a mere selection of the hundreds of monuments, buildings, castles, palaces and ancient ruins all worth seeing...
There are cities that are considered monumental as per se... Toledo, Santiago de Compostela, Seville, Salamanca, and many more....
I have lived in Spain for nearly 36 years, and still haven't seen everything worth visiting! |

Hmmm...
I LOVE the Plaza Mayor in Salamanca. That's my number 1! It is just so beautiful.
Second is the aqueduct in Segovia. So cool! No mortar, no grout, just stone.
Palacio Real in Madrid is third. 2800 rooms! And it's only 1/4 of the size Phillip II intended it to be.
Fourth would have to be the Seville cathedral. There are remains of Christopher Columbus there, and, if you are up for it, you can climb 34 ramps and get an AWESOME view of all of Seville.
Hmm... I only get to choose one more! I'll have to go with the Alcázar in Segovia for my fifth choice. Really cool to see the thrones and stuff, but being down with all of the tombs, well I got a little emotional but I did hold it in... my friend who was supposed to be on that (school) trip to Spain passed away at the end of '07. (Trip was May-June '08)
I LOVE SPAIN! :) :) |

I can only think of one in Barcelona. The huge church with the different blends of periods that never stops in construction. |

I agree with Sue, but if she was from Spain then one of her buildings would have to either include the Santiago Bernabéu where Real Madrid play or the Camp Nou stadium where Barcelona play. These two places are amazing to be at whether there is a game on or not.
The Spanish think differently to that of the tourists. |
