Euros! That's the only currency used nowadays in Spain. You have coins: 1cent, 2cents, 5cents, 10cents, 20cents, 50cents, 1euro and 2 euros, and then bills of different colours and sizes depending on their face value: 5euros (light blue), 10 euros (red), 20 euros(blue), 50 euros (orange), 100euros (green, I think!), 200 euros, and 500 euros. Visa and MasterCard are accepted in most major stores, so that could be another option for you.

Average cost of items? Mmm, it depends, you can rent a car for 30 euros per day, get a 2 bedroom apt. in a major city for about 1000-1200 euros -depending on the city-, and get weekly groceries for about 60 euros.
Hope it helps.

There are NO pesos here in spain. we have euros. and it depends on what area of Spain you are coming to.. the most expensive city in Spain is Barcelona then madrid.. and the cheapest area is Badajoz in Extremadura..

Take care..

Euro's
Cost is about Half the price any British store would charge, sometimes even more than that, 1 GBP = 1.49 E therefore 60 cents Does not = 60p but about 25-30p A BIG differance if your British...

You would pay more in Spain than in the US, but not twice. Maybe 1.5 times, I think. A tapa cost around E2 to E5, in a normal tapa bar, for example.

They use Euro, period.

The main currency is the Peso and the Euro. And, you can expect to pay about twice as much for an item in Spain as you would pay for it in the U.S. because the dollar isn't worth crap these days... the Euro takes about $1.38 to buy... so 10 Euros would cost you $1.38 to buy THEN there is a 10 percent cambio charge on top of that.

Your money won't go as far in Spain as you expect it to go.. Europe is very expensive for Americans these days.
