What are good places to stay and eat in Madrid ?
I'm planning my first visit to Spain and would really like some travel tips as to budget friendly hotels and restaurants that you can get more of the local spanish experience, and some tips about spanish culture and curency exchange, ( how much money is wise to carry around just to have a good time but not to go crazy spending?)
Plan on 30€ for dinner in restaurants. 10 € for lunch. 5€ getting around and 10€ entrance to attractions / snacks etc each day. Add to this if you want to go for a night out (40-80€ depending on your tastes and location). Walking around you shouldn´t have any problems so long as you watch your purse/wallet/handbag.
As for a good restaurant.... Theres hundreds of them. Recommend you go to La Latina and find one that you like the look of. You´ll get to meet real Spanish people enjoying their meal rather than those paying a fortune for a "Special evening". 9 times out of 10 the best places are where you least expect to find them!

El Pescador is a great seafood restaurant. Use ATM Machines and only take out as much as you need for each day.

Best place to eat is at "Botin", the oldest restaurant in the world according to the guiness book of world records. Great food, awesome ambiance, and the amazing history. try to get a table at their cellar.
