Particularly during weekdays. If you could tell me anything else about Marbella, like stuff I shouldn't leave without doing, that would be good too.

There are many places of interest depending on how far you want to go. How about the Mirador at Refugio de Juanar- From Marbella take the Ojen road which is at the junction by the La Cañada shopping centre. Travel up the mountain. The road bypasses Ojen, but do go into Ojen which is a fascinating little mountain village. From there carry on in the direction of Coin. You will come to a signpost on the left to the Refugio. This is a quiet mountain road which winds it's way up the mountain. Once at the top go to the "Mirador" first. Park your car and then walk the next 2 Kilometres. You will eventually come to a view point way up high looking over Marbella way below and North Africa over the Med. Work your way back to the car park. Just round the corner is an amazing hotel. They do super traditional meals. Sitting outside in a cool courtyard on a hot summers day is so relaxing.
Ronda is a "must see". You go from Marbella to San Pedro de Alcantara which is a few miles from Marbella. Take the Ronda road from there. This road is exciting to drive on. It takes you through the mountains. At times you can see the road miles ahead as it winds it's way around each mountain. It is a very good road and nothing to be concerned about. On the Ronda road and not far from San Pedro is a restaurant called "El Coto". It's not cheap but it is a great restaurant.
The list is endless, I'm only mentioning two places. There are other places such as Casares, Jimena de la Frontera, the El Chorro Gorge. Puerta Banus is a great place to go and look round, but beware, it is a millionaires playground and the prices reflect that.
Enjoy.

Conoco has given a fantastic answer..I'll just add a few places to the list...
Granada (bus tour best option)
Córdoba (also by bus tour for a 1 day visit)
Ceuta (spanish north africa)
Tarifa (great place for windsurf...windy, great beaches and surf)
Málaga itself... (Picasso Museum, Gibralfaro, Alcazaba, etc,)
Selwo Safari Park in Estepona...especially if you love animals and/or travel with children... A great way to spend a day!
Nerja Grottoes, then down to the beach for a great paella
Almuñecar, Granada (small town, nice beaches).
Another is a village called Grazalema, not too far from Ronda.
Then there is Benahavis for a good meal (a small village with great restaurants).
The following is one of several websites with information you might find valuable.

yes the rock of gib ,or puerto banus and Mijas are nice places to go to, and the many beaches of course my fave, was la cala its very nice with great restaurants along the beach and they used to have a great little chip shop there , it was the best around ,it was a few years ago mind make the most of your time there good luck !!

SUE
You can almost SEE the rock of Gibraltar from there...go to Gibraltar. You have to go by bus.

Or Ronda. The coolest bridge in history! (the Puente Nuevo over the Tajo River Gorge - and no, it isn't the same Tajo River that runs around Toledo and through Lisbon.) It's a really pretty town. An absolute favorite of mine. I think you have to take a bus there, too. Not sure if there are any trains there. It's on a really steep clifftop.

*edit* Conoco lives near there. He knows.
