They arrest any ETA member or anyone who could be related to ETA...
They send the Prioners to near Madrid...
The ETA that is still active kills 2 Spanish Police
& The Prisioners are moved back to the Basque Country...
In Spain we must have the worste poloices of dealing with Terrisist...You start talks but don't listern to their demands because you think your a big country... so they end the cease fire kill two imgarants and flaten a parking lot...
then you want to talk again !?
They don't do anything just arrest anyone who could be ´linked´ outlaw all poloitical parties which could win & result in a revolution -_- the thing is less than %50 of North Spain wants independance... we can all ready make our own laws... have our own police and language... independance won't bring much more freedom into the region... but no one seems to realize that... but don't get me wrong... I voted for ´Navarra YES´ in the local elections when I turned 16... & I'd vote for ETA to be incharge if they hadne't been outlawed when I turn 18
But since 11-M They are allowed to use special terrist laws and listern to phonecalls and open mail ect. of anyone which could be linked to ETA - but other than that they don't do anything... there is nothing they can do? bomb millions of people in Bilbo... will that win votes & end the war for independance... |

The methods used to fight against ETA have gone from:
- Negotiating with them: the last Spanish governments (PSOE, PP and PSOE again) have tried this way... and failed. Normally the terrorist band has used this "negotiation process" to rearm themselves and prepare more attacks.
- Doing it "by the book": police have arrested terrorists, they have been judged and sent to prison for their crimes... but the Spanish Law system is "soft" and terrorists can (or could) take advantage of it easily (ie: killing 25 people and being released 17 years later).
- Making the "dirty war" (la guerra sucia): in the 80's death squads (the GAL) were created to fight terrorism in their own terms: kidnapping, killing and torturing... It was a failure and most of the people responsible for this were sent to jail.
- Fighting terrorism from its base: most of the terrorists come from the Kale Borroka ("street fighting"), trying to arrest the young people involved in it.
- Making illegal the political branch of the terrorist band (HB, EH, Batasuna, ANV) so they can't be represented in the government (local or national)... but the main Spanish political parties (PSOE and PP) argued on the way to do it and the terrorist create different formations so they can go to the elections.
Those are 5 examples of what it's done (and has been done) to dissolve ETA. I have tried to be as impartial as possible (on this topic nobody can be impartial) I hope it's useful. |

Well, the ETA is still there, so, not dissolved. After how many years? over a hundred? So, I guess it hasn't worked.
Same as any other government uses to counteract terrorism. |
