I'm 17 (18 in 3 Days!!) I live in Navarra north Spain... and I can't buy in the store.

But I could in Menorca last Summer... !

In most bars ect. (as long as it is not a very tourstic place) it will be 16 to drink, and outside EVERY discoteca in my town has the age restriction on 16 displayed.

Although you oftern do see younger or older people inside

When eating a meal it can become complicated, if you get beer wine or something that isn't considered as Hard as Vodka, usually you will be able to get from 15, and alway's with a parent

Night clubs/Discotecas in Ibiza for example enforce the 18 rule. In a Suburb of Madrid where there are less tourist's it will be 16

I understand that their legal drinking age used to be 18, but they lowered it to 16. More than just the legal age, they enforce it differently than they do here in USA... ie, they're not as uptight. Buying it might be a problem but if your parents were with you then drinking it would probably be all right.

HOWEVER, since they give you more priviledges at a younger age, they expect you to be responsible and if you abuse them they probably hold you to the consequences.

For buying alcohol, gambling, nightclubs, when you are 18 you are considered an adult in Spain.

In USA, I think that they don't seem to care as much about the health and safety of people as they do about sticking to the rules. In Spain, I don't think things are "nailed down" as tight... I think the authorities have some leeway in regards to judgement call. :)

That's what they ought to do here in USA, I don't see anything wrong with the kids having a glass of wine under parental supervision. No one is gonna put their own children in danger.

2. YES, you can buy alcohol, they may ask you for your ID

4.not under 16 , but if you look young they are gonna ask for your passport , so take it with you.

Funnily enough me and my best friend are going in July as well..And we will both be sixteen,
I have reason to believe that the legal age for drinking and going into nightclubs i 16 - though you may need in some places an 18 + to buy it for you - you can still drink it though..
