What are the buses in spain like?

I'm going to be working in Barcelona this summer and would like to know how the buses work - do they have a little button to press when you want to get off? Do they have screens that tell yuo where you are like they do here in London?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi, i lived in Spain recently for about seven years.
And the buses don't have buttons on them to Stop, unlike England :-)
And they don't have screens that tell you where you are either :-(
They just Stop every so often :-))

Hope i helped :-))

Well we are all experts BUT.............

Barcelona buses are great. e.g City buses all have ramps for the disabled.

There is a button to press if you want off too.

You buy tickets called T10 (te diez) for one zone at newspaper shops and stations.(incl Metro). These discounted tickets give you 10 journeys on buses, trams, trains & metro in the city. You can also jump from one bus to another.without paying more.
There are no screens but you can look out of the window in the bus.

If you are staying for a longer time, there are various tickets. I have two in my pocket. One is for local journeys, the T1 one zone,, the other to go into the city from my home in the Province of Barcelona, a T10, 3 zones.

It may seem complicated but I assume you speak some Spanish. Public transport in BCN is cheap, safe, and, despite - or perhaps because of the complaints by the locals, works really well.

Out of town buses are very Spanish and often do not say where they are going to (Monbus please note!). They stop in the street not in bus stations. They seem to leave when they feel like it.

THEY ARE CHEAP, SAFE and clean. What more could we want?

After living in London, I was impressed with how the drivers here wait until old and infirm people are seated before moving off.

Depends what city you are in. In Santander, where I live, the buses DO have the screens that tell you which is the next stop, so I suppose that in Barcelona they´ll also have them, as Santander is pretty small. The only double deckers are those reserved for tourist sightseeing and are usually open air at the top.
The bus fare here is 1,10€, but I think that in Barcelona it is cheaper, and YES, the buses DO have the little buttons to press when you want to get off (and usually have "stop" written on them, hehe xD).

The good public bus system is complemented in Barcelona by a fast, convenient, metro.

Yes, the buses do have buttons to press when you need a stop & the ones in Barcelona do have a map above the exits that marks the route. But the metro there is actually a lot more convenient--more frequent service & to more places, very easy to follow the routes.

summerr .
The buses in Barcelona are great! They are clean and very modern !
They tell you what stop is next and other things as well :)

There's a way to tell the driver you need to get off...can't remember if it's a chord or buttons, but you'll figure it out on the first run.

They are very clean and modern...use green fuels and such.

You'll really enjoy Barcelona, but don't miss the chance to travel around! Every corner of Spain has its beauty!

I cant tell you specifically about Barca because I have never been on a bus there. But here in Benidorm we have a long line of flat cable on the roof above your seats that runs the length of the bus and you press that when you want to get off.
There are no screens that tell you where you are, you will just have to get used to knowing the sites and landmarks just before your stop so you can be ready to press the bell.
They are really cheap and you may be able to get a weekly ticket in Barca
I have added a couple of links for you which may be useful.
