barcelona must be the first name on your list. it's the most spectacular city ever, it has sea, hills, history, incredible buildings like torre agbar, sagrada familia, montjuic castle etc, it has lovely walking streets like rambla, plaza catalunya, plaza d'espana... you have to see it! and it's extremely safe, also.

then, there is andalusia, which is great: malaga (costa del sol), sevilla, cordoba... safe too.

if you want a large beach and white sand you should also visit valencia or alicante

if you want a not so secure area but a great great view and peace and quiet you should go to the basque country... san sebastian, bilbao... vitoria gasteiz... lovely cities!

i could recommend madrid, but i won't, i personally don't find it that nice.

also, many other small cities in the rest of spain, but if you go there for the first time start with barcelona and then other stuff. you'll never forget it!

Nerja, camping free on beach. San Sebastian, and Madrid night life. Beware crossing boarders on Eurolines!!!!

Barcelona, Madrid and Granada

Look up on internet where to go in these places.

I think they are my top three cities along with Sevilla

pretty
It really depends on which area you are visiting. I live in southern Spain. If you are going to be in this area (Andalucia) the cities to consider visiting would be Seville, Granada, and Ronda. These are my top 3 picks for inland Spain. If you are planning to be close to the coast, Costa del Sol being the most popular, I would recommend Tarifa, Malaga, and Cadiz. Cadiz is actually on the Costa de la Luz and a long drive, but totally worth it. If you feel like experiencing a bit of the UK you should try to fit Gibraltar into your trip. It is between Cadiz and Malaga and truly a wonder.

SEVILLA!!!!!!

Granada

either Barcelona (if you like more modern places) or Madrid, (if you like things more traditional and gracious).

And, I need to make some corrections on Snowbird. It only takes an hour to get from Barcelona to the Dalí museum, which is NOT in Girona (but that town is a good double up with it) but in Figueres. Yeah, we did the train and had a terrific time...Girona is only about half an hour from Barça.

And, I believe the "green" place she mentions is called Escribá...It's about midway up the Ramblas, maybe a bit higher, on the left, as you are walking away from the port. It's VERY historic, and thus, the higher prices.

Just got back this morning! after a week in barcelona! besides doing barcelona, oif U are pressed for time , take a train trip( 2 hours0 to girona to visit the Dali museum worth it-Then do a train trip to Monserrat once agin worth a visit its incredible, the scenery and the history
Avoid the arranged bus trips as the trip by train is at your own pace and cheaper too
Also take the Red & Blue hop-on hop off bus
We took a 2 day pass for this one( close to Las Ramblas) so the fist time we just sat in the bus and took in everything the first day both of them lasting 2 hrs each
the next day took the blue one and got off to see the museums etc
In Las Ramblas be careful of one eating place , its near the theatre a small cafe ( not sit out) they rip-you off with the Tapas pricing! I cant recall the name but its next to where there is a lot of Green lit place! Sorry cant name it
If they display the price its fine, or better still dont feel shy of ASKING them before allowing them to heat it and bring it to the table
Enjoy
