First...if you still have pesetas...you must take them to the BANCO DE ESPAÑA (only bank that still changes them, you will find one in every large town in Spain).

They will give you the equivalent in Euros, which is the monetary system now used all over Europe (all the EEC countries, except the UK where they still use pounds).
The Euro is now worth aprox. $1.20. (U.S. dollars)

It is now summersale time...So your money will go a little further if you are in Spain durung july-august. The best sales are in july, by august things are a bit "picked over".

The EL CORTE INGLÉS department stores have good sales, and fairly good quality for your money.. There is at least one of these in every large town in Spain.

To give you an idea of prices...I just bought my husband a very nice shirt for 12 euros instead of 21.
(Most things have about a 25% to 30% discount).(Sometimes you'll find a promo. of 3 for the price of 2).
And I bought myself 2 pairs of shoes original prices 26 & 30 euros for 12 & 20.

Good sales and neat clothes in the ZARA shops. (has both mens & womens clothes and can be found all over Spain in most large and medium sized towns).

Have a good shopping spree!

Well, since a few years the EURO is the only currency valid in Spain. You may go to a Spanish bank to exchange your 50000 ESP into 300 EUR - so you may buy quite a lot of clothes for that, depending on your requirements.
