I think they still remember the 600 years of occupation by the Moors.
Plus they have problems with the Africans that have illegally sneak into the country and now are causing problems. |

Every spaniard has their own opinion. Sadly, a lot of spanish people (some of that I've met including family lol) are racist. This is partly, because the Moors (from North Africa) occupied some of spain for up to 800 years. Also, they're culture can make them discriminate against foreigners as Franco (Dictator of Spain 1939-1975) inforced this idea. But don't let that put yout off, a lot of spaniards, if not most, do not discriminate againt muslims. Enjoy visiting Spain if you get the chance. |

don´t worry, just enjoy your trip.. and remember Spain in general has many areas which were Dominated by the moors at one time. just like the message before me said.
Have fun..

Spain has such a RICH muslim history, you would have such a wonderful time researching it! Spend lots of time in AndalucÃa. But there´s tons of things to discover in much of the North, as well.
I´m not entirely sure, but I think, as long as you´re not an illegal alien and stealing from people, you should get along fine. (That`s actually more the africans. Apparently there´s a huge problem along the coastal communities, especially, with illegal africans - one thinks of the Moors, the African Muslims from the 8th century, etc. - who live day to day, are kind of leeches on society, and are sterotyped as pickpockets and small-time thieves.) |

I just wanna say that people are usually friendly, but nowadays Italians are scared by Muslims, many 'Imams' have been expulsed from Italy because they preached enmity against Western World and Muslims are really NOT friendly and they really don't wanna assimilate, they wanna change the country for them, and it's the same that is happening in France, UK, Germany, and Netherlands. |
