I live in Valencia, Spain. Lived here for four years. Worst years of my life. The city, as well as other cities and villages I´ve visited, is very dirty. The people are very impudent (very proud and even confrontational), and ignorant (I cannot stress this enough). The food is horrible. I cannot understand why Spaniards believe in their hearts that they have good food, much less the best food in the world. Don´t get me wrong. It hasn´t been all bad. Some good people here and there and we´ve visited a a lot of nice villages. The first paycheck I received was for a months work and I thought it was for one week. I am a professional with a degree and I was getting paid the same or less as someone who cleans. Oh, and when people get some sort of responsibility, e.g. working for the government, it goes to their head and they treat you like dirt.

I´ve been in spain for six months. I love Barcelona, the architecture there, and the people. I´ve been in Murcia for a while now and I hate it. I find the people down here to be judgemental, rude, and the food is awful. I thought it would all be fresh each day, and it´s so not. It´s gross. The restaurants are filthy, the service is amazingly bad and people in Spain can´t even drive properly.
I leave in two weeks, and I can´t wait. I´ll come back, but only to Barcelona or Madrid.

I went to Spain a few years ago, the country itself is nice, the weather is great, however, I dont think I met any spanish people, every one seemed to be from UK. I didnt really feel spain or culture. Felt like being in Britain.

That they hate anybody that is not of Spanish descent, they will try to Kill you!

I lived in southern Spain for several years and enjoyed it very much. The Spaniards have different ideas about things, just as all cultures do, and they are very laid back late risers who nap in the late afternoon and stay up until dawn. I would go back if I had the choice.

Spain is a great country to live. It is more relaxed, the locals are great. Someone said she never saw any Spanish people and it felt like Britain. Well, the area near Torrevieja is like that, but I live in a village in Andalucia and have Spanish and British neighbours. The locals don't speak English and I'm learning the language and they all know it. They love helping me.
There is almost too much history here, but I love looking around the old towns.

I think Spain is great that's why I chose to live there and move from Britain. The people are good honest, hard working, and friendly. If you try and speak the language they are even better. Cities vary enormously from Barcelona to Malaga, I find all the cities fascinating so may different cultures. The economic is heading for a recession along with Britain and you don't get as many €'s to the £ these days but most things are still cheaper than Britain.
The food is healthy if you go for the Spanish way of eating, salads, olive oil, fish.
Oh and did I mention the sunshine?

I love Spain! :) Best country in the world.

Cities: I LOVE Madrid and Salamanca. Sevilla and Granada are alright. Toledo, eh. Málaga, NO. Other smaller towns like Segovia, Ávila, and La Alberca (REALLY small) are nice too. Have not been to Barcelona, Valencia. :(
People: Friendly for the most part. Seems like they are mean sometimes because they are ALWAYS staring at you, but it's politically acceptable there, and you can stare right back.
Culture: Spain is the definition of culture. Siesta, tomato throwing, running of the bulls, ...bullfighting. Except Málaga. It severely lacks Spanish culture. Blah.
History: It has SO much, from the Álcazars of Ferdinand and Isabella to the Roman aqueduct in Segovia.
Economy: Going into recession. :(
Food: Tortilla española, patatas bravas, and paella are great. Jamón Ibérico is terrible. But you should try it anyways. No, don't. No, try it. I don't know. It's so gross but it's such a big thing over there. They also have the BEST pastries you'll ever find. Look for the word "Pastelería" if you want a pastry. It means pastry store. Good ice cream there too. And candy. Don't go there if you are a vegetarian or health freak, you might die. The organic thing isn't in style over there.

Yay Spain! :)
