I'll bet if you google "Spanish cuisine", you'll find all sorts of things.
As others have mentioned, the most popular are Paella Valenciana, the national dish of Spain, Gazpacho, there are several cheeses that are indigenous, and the hams are world famous.
Tapas, which have morphed into something else entirely in the US, where the idea has become quite vogue, are actually whatever dishes are made in any given restaurant, only served on a saucer, or a plate of the size that it could be used to TOP OFF a small glass of beer, legend telling that the concept began as a way to keep the flies and dust out of the drinks, and some enterprising barman started putting food on the plates, and voilĂ ! Appetizers, or snacks.
Olives are also very popular there...grown along the Mediterranean region and used in lots of the cooking, and lots of legumes...do a search. If you do it right, you should find a bunch of recipes, too. |
