Lillian H-- look forward to your trip, you will really enjoy this city. Its very touristy friendly, beautifully laid out and the eateries are great.market days are an experience on their own, I am certain you will enjoy the visit, I know I did.
One word of caution however, there are plenty of pick-pockets, so just be aware and have a great time.
All the best from an old timer. |

I've been to Barcelona for a two-month vacation (April-May 2003).
Barcelona is really beautiful, I'm sure you and your mate will enjoy the city! There's art anywhere you look.
When I went there, my parents took me to city tour via Barcelona Bus Turistic which is really great! It's a guided tour.

We also went to Port Aventura with my other relatives and it was fun! I enjoyed every ride. Got a picture with Woody Woodpecker, Betty Boop and the Pink Panther. It has different themes in it (Polynesia, Wild West, China)

I think La Boqueria is a very famous market there. We used to shop prawns in that market!

There's a lot to see in Barcelona, full of color, history and arts!
One great city!
>Hope this helps!

Barcelona is like a big city. Very modern...huge, wide boulevards through much of the city.
Very eclectic. Very avant-garde. As you walk up the Ramblas, you'll see all these "preformance artists" being human statues. Really interesting, plus all the markets along the Ramblas.
Food? Go for Seafood! In many ways, it's like the food throughout Spain. Many of the same options, but the seafood is incredibly fresh! Chocolate is very good (and artistic) there, and lots of really good "Catalán" offerings, too. Toast is served there, unlike much of the rest of Spain, with a spread called "Catalán butter" in English (or just tomate in Spanish), which is roasted tomatoes with onions and garlic. It's a nice change from what you get in other parts. Also, you'll want to get ice cream while you're there...there are tons of really great heladerĂas along the Ramblas. Really good, fresh, interesting flavors, etc.
Tour? There are three bus routes, two companies, they are probably pretty similar. I would never take one of those tourist buses in any other situation...too touristy for me, but Barcelona is soooooooooo spread out! It saved our feet! You can easily figure out which sites you really need to see. Camp Nou? If you're into FĂştbol, you should definitely go...I have heard really great things about it...didn't fit in our itinerary. And there are a slew of art museums if you are into that...all the GaudĂ buildings, and the BarrĂ Gotic...if it's a school tour, they'll figure it all out for you.
Water world? I know nothing except that there was a drought last year and they closed all the water parks. Surely, unless you are some major connoisseur, you'll have a blast! Same with the theme park.
Market day? Surely you mean you'll go to the Boqueria? It's open seven days a week. It is one of the biggest food markets in (I believe) the world! (of course, that means that many booths are closed...Hmmmm). But it's cool! Don't just walk in and start buying...look around a bit. At the entrance, there were fruit sellers selling fruit juices for 2 Euros...if you go another two steps, the next guy was only charging 1. Same product. The coconut juice was REALLY good! (not coconut milk...juice, with pulp, and the meat. Yumm! If you like coconut, you'll love!)
You are going to have SO MUCH FUN!!! |
