gastronomy and food production: olive oil, oranges, seafood paella, citrics, ham (jabugo and serrano..much better than italian prosciutto.)fish( most of the red tuna bought by japanese it's fished in southern spain)lots of cheeses. and pork products like chorizo, morcilla..etc.
Besides the typical topic of bullfighting and flamenco dancing...there are so many things in architecture we have the arab heritage in southern spain like the Alhambra, Cordoba's mosque...since in spain in the middle age there were liviving together jewish, catholics and muslims...there is also sinagogues so beautiful in Toldeo...churches like the cathedral of Burgos, Leon, Santiago de compostela, Palma de Mallorca...
we had some grat painters, like Goya, Murillo, Velazquez, Picasso, Miro,Dali, antonio Lopez....etc
Singers like Julio and enrique iglesias, placido domingo, jose carreras, Montserrat Caballé..
Some of the greatest chefs nowadays are spanish like arzak, martin berasategui,Ferran adriá...etc

Too much to answer here, but the posts above have done quite a good job. I have been traveling in Spain for the last 18 months and am writing a blog, not just about my travels but giving some history of this beautiful country also, it will give you more of a feel for the place. I have put a link below.
You really need to get some books on Spain though, and read about it yourself, the history is very interesting. For example, it's the only mainstream european country that was ruled by muslims, which lasted for several centuries. Later all muslims(and jews) were forced to convert to christianity or expelled during the Spanish Inquisition. Also the Basque people and language(very different to all other european languages) date back to before indo-european people.
It's well worth reading about!
¡Ciao! |
