su_juanluis has a good list, as has noname49. Conoco's suggestion of suckling pig, which can also be found in Madrid, is great, too. Every region has its specialties.
My only addition would be that the chocolate (both in confiterÃas and the drinkable) are excellent. The drink MUST be enjoyed with churros at least once. And as for the eatables: my favorite, and you must try, are the trufas heladas. They are available at most confiterÃas and pastelerÃas, but the two places I can recommend are a place on the Puerta del Sol in Madrid, called La Mallorqueña, across from the famous TÃo Pepe billboard, and in Sevilla, La Campana, my hands down favorite pastelerÃa in the world. (ok, my experience is somewhat limited, but it's really good and historic and pretty). It's at the far end of c/Sierpes from the Cathedral (I always get turned around which is north and south). Also, an heladerÃa in Sevilla, called Las Rayas, near the Palacio de las Dueñas, and any ice cream shop along the Ramblas in Barcelona.
Oh! and you should try horchata anywhere along the Coast from Valencia to France. They spell it differently in different regions, but its an almond milk drink. I was surprised, because I had had it out of a powder once and wasn't impressed, but the real stuff is wonderful!
Whoever keeps saying to drink Sangria is out there!! That is just garbage can punch! nobody who knows what they're doing will drink the stuff. Have a nice glass of tinto with your meal, or a cruzcampo, or a TÃo Pepe! Forget that stuff they only make for tourists. |
