What is a must see in Spain (along the southern coast)?

Hello, I'm traveling to Spain this April with my family and I was just wondering the absolute best places to visit along the southern coast. We are going for 9 days and staying in Mijas-Costa... so any place semi close to there.

Thanks

I honestly don't care for the general climate (as I have heard it is) along the Costa del Sol...too built up...too commercialized...always was, in my opinion. The ONLY city in the Costa del Sol that even interests me...well, two, really, are Málaga...ONLY for the history of the center of town, and the churches, and Nerja, because from everything I have seen, it is a really pretty, truly Spanish, and not overrun town! Still looks like it should.

INLAND, on the other hand...there is the Ruta de los Pueblos Blancos...very nice, kinda scary road, with tons of beautiful scenery, and great biking. If I remember correctly, there was lots of good hiking, too, but we weren't paying attention to that, so I didn't really notice.

The place to go in Provincia Málaga, imo, is Ronda. Do a search...REALLY pretty town. Tons of history. You could easily spend from two days to a week there, and not get bored. You could do a quickie as a day trip, too.

I live on the Costa del Sol. You might here it is overdeveloped or too commercialized, and to a point that's true, but there are some beautiful places to visit, whether on the coast or inland. Visit Ronda, but take the mountain road from San Pedro de Alcantara. That is a quite spectacular journey. On the way to San Pedro, call in to see Puerto Banus. It is well worth seeing this playground of the rich.

Inland of Malaga there is an area of lakes. Most tourists don't know they are there. See the link to a place called "El Chorro". There is a gorge there leading to the lakes.

As someone said, a must see is the Alhambra palace at Granada. Take the coast road from Malaga via Motril. It is a spectacular drive to get there.

Also east of Malaga is my favourite town. That is Neja. I live quite close to Nerja. It is a town by the sea but it still retains the feel of an old Spanish town. The beaches are all cove like.

On Mijas Costa there is a town called "La Cala de Mijas". That is a pretty little town with a beautiful beach. From the town, walk along the beach westwards. It's about 2 kilometres in length. At the far end of the beach you will find lovely scallop shells and quite big. They are well worth taking home as a present for someone or just a momento.

Buen viaja

OK the southern coast is only 30% of Spain so I wouldn't call it Spain.
You shouldn't miss Cadiz a very beautiful small city near the sea, Conil also is great, Caños de Meca, ...

It is a beach town. part of the costa del sol. Spain is an old country, there are a lot of little towns inland, the rock isn't far. To tell the truth its alot like southern california, rich and a vacation spot. Most of Spain that I liked is in the mountains and around the major cities like Seville,Barcelona, and Madrid. You can jump on a train and go to the major cities pretty easy. Your best bet is to enjoy the difference in people and food and enjoy the beach.

Southern coast is a typical place of German and British tourists. There are some nice places like Estepona, Málaga, Nerja. But you cannot go to south Spain without visit Granada, and the famous "La Alhambra". Another interesting point is "Cabo de Gata", a cape with virgin beaches.
