What is life in Spain like? |
Hi!
I am moving to Spain in around a month, and any info on it is appreciated, like how the people are, what the school sytem is, prices of food/housing/gas/etc, what teens are like (how they dress, what they do for fun), how safe it is, etc. Any other things you know or can think of are fine.
Thanks in advance! Additional Details Haha, sorry about that. I mean, any information is appreciated. If it's any help, I will be living in Marbella. |

As someone else said before, Spain is not only "paella", "flamenco" and "bullfights". The north is very green, it rains a lot, even in summer, and people there have a different lifestyle than the people who live in the south or the east coast of the mediterranean.
I would say you are very lucky since you chose such a wonderful place. Marbella is like the VIP town in Spain, specially Puerto Banus, its just about a few minutes away by car taking the highway. A lot of rich people live or spend their vacation time there (before his death, the king of morocco had a $500 millions yacht there, actually youll se more of those kind of yachts and cars too) . Youll find great restaurants (but dont let them believe your just "another tourist", if you dont like the service, speak up), nights in the clubs can get pretty wild, and you wont have to go very far to go shopping.
About Food: prices could confuse you. Buy your groceries at a big place (something similiar to meijers), and remember that eating in a good restaurant doesnt mean spendind a lot of money. You wont have to worry about safety, im not saying you can leave your purse in the middle of the street and expect to find it there two hours later, but its pretty safe. And my last advice: careful with our boys, they have a funny way to express their "interest' on a woman...hahaha.
Have fun! |

its really hot in the summer, i was only there for a couple weeks but that was really notable. The people tend to be very laid back, its a fun ambiance, you'll probably enjoy it a lot. They food can sometimes be on the high side for price, especially if you're used to american fast food, but its generally very reasonable.
also, make sure you have a map if you're going to go into a city with high walls... its easy to get lost in them... like the town by the Cordoba.... not that i know any of this by experience... or anything like that... (except i really do) |

This is such a broad question. What if someone asked "what is life in America like?" This is such a broad question because there are so many different areas and people in the country that have entirely different lifestyles. You can't possibly judge a whole country. That is like saying "all americans like McDonalds". |

People are good, friendly if you are courteous, food housing gas catching up with UK as the pound falls.......teens more polite and stay at home with their parents longer.....good parties bars etc ......not Spanish drunkenness like silly Brits.........safe if your sensible .......I've bee here 5 years and like it but its sad that the pound is hurting ex-pats like crazy |

Where are you from? Easier to make comparisons.
here's a link for how they dress. It's not that different from home, but there are some subtle differences. They are, generally, more formal than in a lot of other places.

You'd do well to be able to speak some of the language, and mix with the locals, Marbella, I believe, is one of those places where there are a lot of British people, and the better part of the area would be actually living and mixing with the people who are FROM there. I think it's a really pretty place, but it is, for the most part, a beach tourist area. |
