"The Best Way" is not usually the cheapest way - just the opposite, as you've found out by looking at the high speed train option. (106 - 124 Euros each way)

If time enjoying your destination is more valuable to you than money, bite-the-bullet and go by bullet train. If money is more sacred, go by bus.

If you're desperate to save cash and don't care how long it takes you could consider the bus ( http://www.alsa.es/ - 8 hours) . It costs about 28 Euros one-way or 50 Euros round-trip.

Flying is another good option, can be just as fast overall, and can be quite a bit cheaper depending on your hours and days flying. For planes, go to: http://www.vueling.com (usually the best option), http://www.spanair.com , http://www.iberia.com

For train, go to http://www.RENFE.es (you've already found it).

Best of luck and enjoy yourself!

Bus - www.alsa,es Approx. 28€
Rail - www.renfe.es 100€ to 191€

Prices are approx depends on time of year. The alsa buses are good though you can book online.

train

According to the following site 172 for Freedom (2nd) class and 257 for premier (1st) class. I presume these prices are in euros.:

http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/fares_schedules/index.htm?WT.mc_id=google.Spain_tickets.cpc&WT.srch=1&gclid=COGusofL5ZUCFQOcFQodFgRaeg

If you have a spain-eurail pass you could save a lot. Check it out below:

The bus is cheapest, as mentioned above, but flights and the high speed train are faster (the bus takes 8.5 hours). For better plane fares search www.vueling.com (50 euros each way all inclusive), and the search portal www.edreams.es.

Bus and train are, of course, better for the environment.

The High Speed Train is the fastest way, because you don,t have to be at the satation two hours before as when you have to fly.

Bus is slower and less comfortable, but the cheapest way.
