I'm sorry to tell you but we have a worse economy than the UK we have 3 million (supposedly) unemployed here in Spain, including ones like me who are not claiming anything due to circumstances that you are not qualified to claim anything (self employed in the past).
So your chances of finding a job here are at best very slim, and at worst non existent regardless of your qualifications. Incidentally many qualifications awarded outside of Spain are irrelevant in most cases. |

You don't speak Spanish? How do you expect to live in Spain? They don't really speak a lot of English there. I suppose you could start by learning some online. Try livemocha.com or one of those type of sites. BBC languages is good, too. I just found itunes podcasts, too. Haven't tried them, yet.
With some Spanish, you should be able to get by.
As for work...you are probably looking at things like cleaning, bar/restaurant work, once you become more fluent, working at desks at tourist places like hotels and rent-a-cars, etc. I should think. I'm not sure what your credentials mean, not being from Britain, myself. They might be higher than I imagine.
As for jobs even being available? They really aren't right now. If you are looking for, like, summer 2010, things could be looking up, by then, but I think it could be pretty tough for this Spring/Summer.
Good luck! I don't think it's impossible, but be sure you have things planned out well before you leave home. You don't want to get there, go broke, and have to go crawling back with your tail between your legs...not nearly as much fun as planning it well and being more successful. |
