I heard that there is a complete month in Spain that the locals do nothing but hang out on the beach. Is this true? If so where is it in Spain? How would I plan a vacation to this place? |

Not everyone. Only those who can...so, the owners of the businesses often take off, leaving the peons behind to do the grunt work.
August. And wherever you go, there are enough people to take care of you.
WHERE are you trying to plan a vacation to? The Tourist destination? or where the wealthier Spaniards get to? They mostly go to the Northern Coast beaches...Donostia, Santander, Oviedo, all along the Green Coast, I believe it is called. Fewer geeky tourists...they have completely (from what I have heard, anyway) left the Costa del Sol to the British "colonists". No one in their right mind wants to mess with that. |

With respect to Dart, the Costa del Sol is full of Spanish holiday makers during August. I live here and have to put up with the hordes coming from Madrid and other Northern cities.
Spain's businesses close down for the month of August. The shops are all open, but getting things like building supplies is difficult. |

Lots of places like building suppliers shut in August and in fact it is illegal to do building work involving machinery in August |

Locals mostly take july-august for vacations. Its the summer and the beaches are full of people. Most go to the south, costa del sol, baleares or canary islands.
If you want to go somewhere during that time plan it with time because you'll get better deals. |
