What should I visit in Barcelona when I go? |
I'm hoping either the first week of July or the first week of August for 5 nights, which ever is cheaper.
Also where can I get a cheap flight? I'd be flying from the northwest of England.
How can I make the trip as low cost as possible? Where is a good hotel that's cheap - not a youth hostel. Additional Details ee e - What's your problem? If you aren't going to answer properly, then don't answer at all. I am a student, I have very little money but I don't want to go on holiday with my mum. |

same as everyone else says, but...
parc guell, the beach at barceloneta, bari gotic (including the picasso museum), the ramblas, the olymics site, the boqueria, la pedrera, the whole place is just a fantastic hot sunny fairground!
but most of all, i disagree with someone above ("don't bother paying to go in the sagrada familia, there's not much to see"). NO NO NO. GO IN it's fantastic! it looks like a 12th century cathedral but its less than a hundred years old and its not even finished! go to the top - scary and fantastic views.
but if old looking buildings are not your thing, go and see the most beautiful (and simple) building in the world, the barcelona pavilion by mies van der rohe. from 1928 i think.
and afterwards, when the sun is setting, see the son et lumiere show at the magic fountain 50 yards away.
enjoy! |

When I lived in Europe ryanair and german wings are cheap...also we used expedia for flight and hotel. When you get to Barcelona just take the hop-on, hop-off city bus tour. It takes you to all the major sites. There are 3 lines so there's lots to see. Be sure to see the Sagrada Familia church while you're there. |

Don't forget to visit the Church of La Sagrada Familia. |

Seriously, Ryanair or one of those discount airlines...apparently, they don't really fly into Barcelona, they fly into two little towns, each about an hour away. If you don't want to go into Barcelona to stay, stay in Girona...REALLY cute little town! We loved it. Then you can take the train in and see what you want to, and enjoy a smaller town atmosphere.
You can get a good guidebook...DK Eyewitness puts out a beautiful series of books...Go ahead and splurge...it'll be one of your souvenirs (they don't come cheap). Use it for the important sights.
Surely, you don't even need to be told about some of the more famous ones.
Check out the Palau Musica as soon as you get there...they sometimes have unscheduled concerts that cause them to close during ordinary hours.
If you hit Parc Güell while they are setting up for a formal affair, you won´t be able to find a loo ANYWHERE! Not in the park, not anywhere nearby!
Drink plenty of hydrating drinks...don't overdo the coffee and liquor, which cause you to dehydrate. Water and non caffeinated sodas, juices, etc. Oh, and the tap water is, as they say, there "fatal!" Tastes incredibly bad! Too much of some chemical! (tasted sulphury to me).
The tourist bus is worth it for Eixample and the Gaudà attractions, as they are extremely spread out!
Eat tons of ice cream! It is REALLY good, there...home made, fresh and REAL natural flavors. The seafood is to die for as well.
We found a nice place on the Ramblas for chocolate and churros...called the Café de la Opera...across from, you guessed it! the Opera.
The Museu de Xocolat was really neat...best gift shop I have been to in a while. Well, all chocolate gifts...can't go wrong, right! (unless you're allergic).
My friend picked up some nice gifts in the grocery at Corte Inglés. I believe Plaça de Catalunya. Not my cup of tea, generally, but she said it was great!
And for ee e...the pound took a major beating last month! Not worth so much against the Euro now!
Disfruta! (if you decide to go to Girona, email me, and I can give you a couple of pointers...we only did half a day trip, and you would probably quickly find everything we did, and more!) |

Flights are cheaper with Ryan air but fly into Gerona and Reus, about an hour away by cheap local bus.
You'd be cheaper staying in the Costa Brava, self catering or 2/3 star hotels,
Calella,in costa Brava, is an hour train journey from Barcelona,
Hotels in Barcelona are expensive just like any major city.
Gerona, is also expensive for hotels
Certainly, when in Barcelona, take the tourist bus and get off when
and where you wish
Las Ramblas is a must... |

if you go in early July it would be the cheapest for flight and hotels as you would than miss the school summer holidays.
Your best bet is to search expedia or such like for flight prices and do the same for hotels I personally think that is the best way to sort out the cheapest and to see what is provided by all, all the best. |

To make it as cheap as possible id fly by easyjet into barcelona , then get the metro from the airport to wherever your staying, its really easy to use and understand and sooo cheap.
The best sights ive seen in Barcelona are the sagrada familia (dont bother paying to go in, theres not much to see. Parc guell, which is free and really cool. The Boqueliria (cant spell it) market along the ramblas, so much to see and a good place to pick up a cheap lunch. The barri gotic in general, all the best (and cheaper )bars are here, look out for the tequila bar. If you walk down the ramblas towards the port olympic theres lots to see around there, and you'll find the beach around here (barcoleneta). The best advice is probably just to wander around as much as you can because thats where we found all the nicest little places and squares etc.
Also, i wouldnt rule out hostels, ive stayed in them both times ive been and some are gorgeous. You ca get them either with shared bathrooms or private and you can have your own room, and thatll still work out cheaper than a hotel. There are a lot along the gran via which is located really well.
p.s e ee your an ill informed idiot. |
